On Sunday November 30th at 6pm, St Giles' Church Choir will hold a service of Advent Carols by Candlelight at St Giles Church Camberwell (Map).

Advent carols are sometimes less well known than the Christmas ones and tend to be evocative, concerning expectation, waiting and longing.  Examples are "Come Thou Long Expected Jesus" or "Lo! He Comes With Clouds Descending".  Advent carols are stunningly beautiful and the service will feature the carols sung in candlelight. There'll also be some readings and poetry followed by tea, coffee and... arctic rolls!

An Advent carol service is a way of reminding us that (despite television advertising) it's not yet Christmas.  Advent acts as a form of pregnancy in which Christians observe the longing of the church for Christ's return and imagine the longing of Mary as she anticipated Jesus' birth.
