Sonia Phippard admitted and licensed as a Lay Reader

Thirteen new lay readers were admitted and licensed at a service in Southwark Cathedral on Monday evening.  Each candidate was blessed by the Bishop and received a bible admitting them as a Lay Reader.  They were then vested in blue scarves denoting their office.

Readers are called to serve the Church and work together with clergy and other ministers.  They are to lead public worship, to preach and teach the word of God, to assist at the Eucharist and to share in pastoral evangelistic work.  As authorized lay ministers, they are to encourage the ministries of God's people and help the whole Church participate in God's mission to the world.

Sonia (St Mary Magadalene) has thus made her gifts available to the diocese and will contribute significantly to the work of Camberwell Deanery.  She is open to receiving invitations to preach from local churches.  If you'd like to invite her (or to pass on your congratulations), she can be reached at:
