The Camberwell Deanery Diocesan Synod representatives, Cleo Soanes and Les Alden attended a meeting of the Southwark Diocesan Synod on 8th November 2014 at St John's Church, Waterloo.

The topics discussed were wide-ranging, from the setting of the 20215 budget (£20,545,000, a 1.8% increase) to Together Southwark, a joint venture of the Church Urban Fund and the Diocese of Southwark to tackle poverty across the region.  It was announced that full-time clergy posts continue to be cut (as agreed at a previous Diocesan Synod meeting) and 15 cuts (out of a total of 30) have already been made.

In better news, the Lent Call Project beneficiaries were announced.  Also, Anglican churches were encouraged, following the publication of the Being Built Together report, to get to know members of the many Black Led churches in the Southwark area and to consider sharing premises.

Les Alden kindly wrote a more detailed report of the Southwark Diocesan Synod meeting and you can view the report here.
